In my home language there’s a saying that goes “se sa feleng se a hlola” — loosely translated “all good things come to an end”. This was my last edition as editor of this magazine.

It has been a great, roller-coaster ride, a great and enriching four years as the driver of this publication. It has certainly been the best four years of my life as a journalist.

As we come to the end of this journey, I would like to thank you the reader, for being part of a growing family. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the Avusa management for their kind support and for affording me the opportunity to interact with you.

I was honoured to have worked with a dedicated team of contributors, writers and photographers, who at times went beyond the call of duty, in assisting me to put together an entertaining package.

This has been a remarkable time of growth and I hope my successor and his team will continue to bring out the best football read this side of the Equator. Your further support will ensure the magazine’s continued existence.

As you and I part ways, I made sure that I leave you with an exciting package.

And from cover to cover — you have a bumper edition like no other. Our main feature is an extensive interview with Liverpool captain and England star Steven Gerrard about his club, his league ambitions and his World Cup dream. One on One brings us face-to-face with former Italy and Milan defender Franco Baresi about his World Cup penalty miss, his beef with Inter and We also touch base with former and current football stars such as Gheorghe Hagi, Didier Drogba, Frank Leboeuf, Sam Hutchinson and Daine Klate.

We go behind the scenes to reveal the hard work done by soccer commentators.

In our regular feature More Than a Game we focus on the old rivalry between Uruguay and Argentina.

We look into a growing trend and go inside a private school that’s creating a new breed of footballer, a middle class player. As focus shifts from the older generation of coaches in Europe, we bring you the emerging supermanagers — the new Wengers and Fergusons.

Back home we put the new SAFA boss Kirsten Nematandani under the spotlight to make sense of the revolution in SA football.

We also bring you our regular diet of lifestyle: fashion, grooming, motoring and new gadgets.

Ciao. See you in the another life.
